MK&G Messe

Organizer: Justus Brinckmann Fördergesellschaft mbH &  Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg

With over 130 years of existence, the MK&G messe is the oldest and most established forum for arts and crafts in Germany. The fair concept has been repeatedly adapted to the changing framework conditions. 2020 seemed the right time to review and revise the contemporary and international status and the artistic and social relevance of the fair. To this end, an external curator, Pascal Johanssen, was appointed for the first time to advise the organisers on taking stock and reorienting the fair.

As in the past, the fair sees itself as a platform for renowned international artists, but is now directed even more towards young exhibitors from Germany and abroad and is more interested in cross-border and cross-genre positions, which are judged less by training or tradition than by the quality of the hand-made works.

Since its foundation, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (MK&G) itself has stood for an internationally oriented interest in the best design quality and the communication of the same. In this sense, the MK&G messe will have an international orientation. It aims to be a central platform for arts and crafts, for ‘Contemporary Craft’ in Northern Europe.
