The documenta is one of the world’s most important exhibitions of contemporary art. It takes place every five years in Kassel and lasts 100 days. The exhibition venues are spread throughout the city. The supervisory board and shareholders of documenta decided at their last meeting that next year’s 15th edition will take place as scheduled, despite the pandemic. Thus, Kassel will once again be in the spotlight of the international art scene from June 18 to September 25, 2022.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, planning for documenta fifteen has been hampered. The meetings with the international actors can only take place online, security and hygiene concepts have to be considered and outdoor as well as online offers have to be developed and planned. The curating artist* collective ruangrupa from Jakarta emphasized the importance of curatorial practice and the power of art to adequately respond to moments of uncertainty.
