Amazon acquires MGM – Second largest acquisition in company history

MGM (Hollywood studio Metro Goldwyn Mayer) is famous for the lion logo and has around 4,000 productions in its portfolio, including the James Bond films. But also film classics like “Rocky” and “RoboCop” as well as the TV series “Vikings”, “Fargo” and “The Handmaid’s” were or are produced by MGM.

During the Corona pandemic, MGM also suffered from closed cinemas and had to postpone the release of “No Time to Die” from the James Bond series several times. In contrast to the difficulties of the cinema industry is the video streaming boom. In addition to buying licenses, streaming companies are investing a lot of money in their own productions to expand their offerings. Amazon is no exception. Last year, Amazon spent $11 billion on content instead of $7.8 billion before.

Now Amazon is taking a huge step forward and has acquired Hollywood studio MGM for $8.45 billion. Here’s more info.
