Claudia Roth to become new Minister of State for Culture

Federal Executive Director Michael Kellner announced in an email to party members on Thursday evening that current Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters will be replaced by Green Party politician Claudia Roth. The executive director of the German Cultural Council, Olaf Zimmermann, is positive about the new appointment: “With Claudia Roth, a political professional will take over this important political office.”

As the first Green politician to hold the office of Minister of State for Culture, Claudia Roth brings with her a remarkable career in politics. As press spokeswoman for the first Green parliamentary group in the Bundestag, she took her first steps in politics in 1985 and has since held important positions, including Commissioner for Human Rights Policy or party chairwoman in Bündnis 90/Die Grünen. Issues that Roth is particularly committed to are human and civil rights, climate protection, development policy issues, anti-racism and culture. In this context she is directly involved in the “One-World-Politics” and the globalization-critical movement Germany.
