The German Minister of Culture Monika Grütters(CDU) was in an interview with the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” and commented on the current situation of culture in the pandemic.
According to the interview, the politician, who is running again for the German Bundestag, thinks that the government should not cut corners and leave culture out of the equation in its post-pandemic reckoning. According to her, the savings potential is “relatively small” compared to the overall budget.
Moreover, cultural institutions such as theaters and cinemas should reopen with the right hygiene concepts. The risk of infection in these is lower than in supermarkets, she said, and opening the institutions would free society from isolation.
